About us
The history
The Shrewsbury DIY website was originally set up by Ed in 2004 to promote the music scene in and around Shrewsbury. The site quickly gained a following an became one of the main ways in which gigs were organised and promoted around the town.
Two years on and Ed was unable to continue to run the site, due to commitments with university and limited funds to pay for hosting, and the site was left to expire.
At that time alternative forums were set up by the users Higgy and fata-morgana so that there would still be a place for the users of the site to continue to keep in touch. It was decided that Higgy's offering was the one that everyone should move too, as it used the same software and a similar layout, and so was more familiar to the current users.
At that time Higgy was also on a short course in web design, which included creating a website as part of the assessment. This he duely got on with and so a new site for the ShrewsburyDIY came out of the woodwork.
Current aims are to find a venue in Shrewsbury to put on regular 'ShrewsburyDIY' gigs, host meet-ups in the Quarry and promoting the site to encourage a younger following of Shrewsbury music fans.
